Children of God Hear and Do

Luke 8:1-25    Genesis 12    Psalm 6

“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go . . .’ . . .  So Abram went” (Gen 12:1,4).
Jesus said, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it” (Luke 8:21)

As I read the story of Abraham’s obedience in light of Jesus’ word, I am led to pause and reflect:
What is the word of the Lord to me this day, week, year? Where is God calling me to go?? What am I being prompted to do??? Am I listening? Am I willing to “go” and “do it?”

Genesis 12:9 reports that “Abram journeyed on by stages.” The Hebrew word means to “pull up stakes.” It takes energy and effort to break down camp and keep going. Abram’s father, Terah, started out for Canaan, but he settled down and stayed put (Gen.11) . . . Abram heard God say “Go” and he  went. And he kept doing it. Faithfulness. Obedience. The children of God are those who hear the word of God and do it. May it be so for me this day.
